BIP in partnership with Axiall Industries, a world leader in chemical applications, has a safe, simple and accurate chlorination system that has been replacing outdated chlorine systems in pools such as at the Canada Summer Games facility in Kamloops.
The BIP Chlorinator and Accu-Tablets deliver precisely the level of chlorine needed automatically. Bleach will lose strength rapidly in storage. Other methods may provide variable chlorine levels. Accu-Tab Blue tablets have a patented controlled erosion agent for continuous, steady chlorination in pools. The chance of chemical spills or gas leaks is reduced to almost zero.

The BIP Chlorinator for the pool operates manually or with ORP controllers. The chlorinator is typically cleaned out only once at the end of the season, requiring fewer water balance adjustments, and there are no moving parts to replace. The pool chlorinator can be pressure injected or gravity fed and is NSF 50 certified. It can be engineered for below grade or above grade filters. Accutab has improved sand filtration, providing crystal clear pool water that is nearer to neutral pH, and over stabilization is prevented.

- The BIP Chlorinator in combination with an optional UV System has the benefit of destroying chlorine byproducts. As well as being effective against chloramines, UV kills all micro-organisms, including the chlorine resistant pathogens Cryptosporidium and Giardia.
Adding a UV component will typically increase the cost of a pool water treatment system. It does improve water clarity, will cut your use of chemicals typically by 50 per cent, and with the popularity of UV may well give your facility a competitive advantage.
UV treatment seems to increase pool bather and employee comfort with less complaints about smell. The UV system requires little maintenance and will reduce energy bills if you use the power switching option. As well there is no need to control combined chlorine levels by dilutions and back-washing.
How the UV System Works
UV has the same ultraviolet germicidal rays as sunshine, but the light is hundreds of times stronger. No bacteria, viruses, moulds or their spores can withstand this treatment. A UV Arc Tube – a quartz tube similar to a fluorescent strip light – is filled with inert gas, and provides an initial discharge which excites the minute amount of mercury present. A low pressure glow discharge produces a line spectrum at 185.0 and 253.7 nm. As the current is increased, the Arc Tube heats up rapidly, the pressure increases and produces the typical Medium Pressure spectrum or Low pressure spectrum depending on the requirement. A monitor provides continous measurement of each UV lamp in the treatment chamber and keeps the system running at max efficiency for low pool maintenance.
