Northern Alberta work camps receive package delivery

Two potable water treatment plants complete with a water storage system were delivered in six containers to two new works sites for Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. These plants will service two 200-main work camps related to oil sands expansion.
BI Pure Water designed and built the package plants in its factory in Surrey, BC and delivered them by semi to northern Alberta in the spring and summer 2014, where they were commissioned. The treatment plants are mounted on sturdy skids and can be easily moved to other locations when required.
The objective of the treatment systems is to provide workers with potable water meeting Canadian drinking water standards. Based on water analysis from the wells, the treatment system consists of GreensandPlus media filtration, activated carbon, ozone, RO and chlorination.
Coldest Nunavut community
receives safe water supply

The new Kugaaruk truckfill water treatment system is providing potable water to one of the coldest (windchill) Canadian locations ever recorded (-92°C on Jan. 13, 1975). Specialized insulation is required to keep the treatment plant from freezing in the extraordinary cold. Local Inuit are trained in the plant’s operation, which comes with a remote monitoring and trending system. The source water is a river that can have high levels of sediment and dissolved minerals.
The plant was designed and assembled as per the project specifications provided by Williams Engineering of Yellowknife, NWT. A treatment system was designed for cartridge filtration, ultraviolet disinfection and residual chlorination. When the filters become used or full of sediment as signalled by a pressure differential, a warning and alarm is triggered and the cartridges must be changed by the operator.
