Emerging contaminants of concern in human wastewater are now being studied by medical doctors and researchers in this field. These ECOC include pharmaceuticals (e.g., fluoxetine and lincomycin), industrial and household products (e.g., p-nonyphenol and triclosan), and reproductive and steroidal hormones (e.g., equilenin and progesterone), many chemicals such as lawn care and agricultural products. They have been shown to bioaccumulate up the food web – putting fish and non-aquatic species at risk.
